Welcome to St. Anselm's Confirmation formation program!Confirmation isn't a ceremonial rite of passage or graduation from religious formation. It's an outpouring of the Holy Spirit that confirms our identity as beloved sons and daughter of God and empowers us for the mission of Christian life. We hope to prepare you for that outpouring in a personal, authentic way. We want you to understand the Sacrament, ask meaningful and tough questions about your Catholic Faith, and most importantly grow in your relationship with God within the family of the Church.
Our program aims to prepare candidates for Confirmation in a way that is relatable, engaging, and in harmony with the busy schedule of young adult life. Our program consists of the following major elements:
A track of four consecutive intensive sessions (choose from two date options)
Opportunities for Reconciliation
A dynamic retreat
Service to the parish and the community

At what age can I receive Confirmation?
In the Archdiocese of New Orleans, the Sacrament of Confirmation is bestowed upon high school juniors (grade 11) after they complete the necessary catechetical and formation requirements as administered by their church parish. 7.4.8.1 In the Archdiocese of New Orleans Confirmation is to be celebrated in the eleventh grade. All parishes within the archdiocese are to adhere to this grade in establishing preparation programs for Confirmation. Request for exceptions must be made in writing to the Archbishop.
What is the timeline for Confirmation formation?
The Confirmation program of St. Anselm begins in May and continues through summer.- MAY 24 • 3:30 PM: mandatory information meeting for prospective candidates and parents/ guardians in the main church. We invite you to stay for 5:00 PM Mass following the meeting.
- JUNE 29, 30, JULY 1, 2 • 6-9 PM: track option 1 (four sessions)
- AUGUST 3, 4, 5, 6 • 6-9 PM: track option 2 (four sessions)
- AUGUST, date TBD: mandatory retreat (held on a Saturday, followed by gathering as a group for Sunday Mass)
- FALL, date TBD: candidate interviews; Reconciliation service; sacramental rehearsal with sponsors; Confirmation Mass
What are the requirements for receiving Confirmation?
Archdiocesan policy requires each candidate to attend all Confirmation program events to fulfill eligibility. Sacramental certificates cannot be issued without completion of all requirements.
These include the following (links and downloads will be posted below):
- online only registration which includes submission of candidate commitment agreements; track selection; sponsor information; patron saint selection; and all required documents (Baptismal certificate copy, First Holy Communion certificate copy, and sponsor testimonial form)
- online only payment of program fees
- attendance at all track sessions (sign in is required)
- attendance at Confirmation retreat
- completion of three parish service hours and three apostolic service hours
- attendance at Confirmation interviews and Reconciliation service
- attendance with sponsor at sacramental rehearsal
What are the program fees?
A Confirmation fee of $150 covers all program materials, sessions, retreat, and t-shirt.
When and where will I receive Confirmation?
Most often, a bishop administers the sacrament in individual church parishes. Eligible candidates typically receive the Sacrament of Confirmation in early fall.
Can you tell me more about the Confirmation retreat?
At St. Anselm, we prioritize personal encounter with Jesus and a genuinely meaningful retreat experience. Candidates attend retreat in two smaller groups in order to facilitate this experience, then rejoin as a large group for Mass and adoration the following day. We have found this structure offer the most impact for our candidates while also honoring their personal schedules.
