The Prayer Blanket Ministry began in Texas in January 1998. This ministry involves the making of lap-sized blankets that are given to people who are either sick or going through extremely difficult times in their lives.
St Anselm started our prayer blanket group in 2005. Each prayer blanket is prayerfully made by volunteers and is blessed by a deacon or priest after Mass each First Friday. Every Sunday, the congregation of St. Anselm prays at Mass for the prayer blanket recipients. A prayer card and flyer about the prayer blankets are enclosed with each blanket.
Who is eligible to receive a blanket? Any adult or child afflicted physically or emotionally. The gift of love and warmth that emanates from these small blankets provides great comfort for the recipients. Anyone in our parish can pick up a blanket for a loved one or person in need in the parish office.
How can you help? We are always in need of people willing to sew, crochet, or knit blankets. Materials are provided so the blankets can be made at home. The materials can be picked up at the church office during regular business hours.
This is a non-profit project. It is supported by the generosity of many people who have given or received blankets themselves. Your donations will enable us to continue making blankets for those in need and is accepted with great appreciation.
