Hello! I’m Leslie Bertucci, and I’m the Youth Choir director for St. Anselm Church. I’d like to tell you a little bit about our choir, and perhaps encourage you to join us.
The primary purpose of the Youth Choir is to lead the congregation in worshiping God in the holy sacrifice of the Mass. We do not perform; we encourage participation of everyone in church by modeling worship of God in song. There is so much joy to be had in using the gift of music to praise the God who made us! If you find yourself in the pew when our choir is leading worship, please sing along with us!
The youth choir is composed of students in eighth through twelfth grade, as well as some in college and beyond. In addition to singers we currently have musicians playing piano, guitar, bass, percussion, clarinet and ukulele. There’s always room for more! Any young person who would like to use their voice or instrument to worship God with us is welcome to join!
The commitment to Youth Choir is minimal, but very much worth the effort. We provide the music for mass at least once a month, sometimes more often, including Christmas Eve and Easter Sunday. We practice in church an hour before the mass at which we will sing. I communicate with our members via email, sending out set lists about a week in advance. I provide a binder of music for each person who confirms they will be at a particular practice and mass.
